Obituary of Raymond F. Bellinger, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond F. Bellinger Sr. on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at the age of 92. A devoted father and dedicated public servant, Raymond's life was marked by a deep love for his family, his country, and the New York Yankees.

Raymond was born in Manhattan in 1931. He loved playing and watching baseball, and he even had an opportunity to play on the New York Giants minor-league baseball team as a first baseman. His love for the game was matched only by his dedication to serving his country, as he bravely fought in the Army during the Korean War, embodying the spirit of patriotism that defined his life.

After his military service, Raymond transitioned into a new role as a New York City firefighter, where he continued to exhibit courage and selflessness as a part of Ladder 18.  His 26 years protecting his community reflected his strong sense of duty and service to others.

Raymond's greatest source of pride and joy, however, was his family. In them, he leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and strength. Raymond is survived by his four children (Raymond Bellinger, Jr. & Sandy, Karen Morrell & Mike, Connie Kelley, and Laura Conner & Steve), eight grandchildren (Shannon, Lauren, William, Samantha, Claire, Matthew, Brian, and Katie), and two great-grandchildren (Charlie and Leo), each of whom he cherished deeply.

Central to Raymond's family life was his deep and abiding love for his wife of 65 years, Rose. Their lasting relationship stood as a testament to the strength found in true love and unwavering commitment. Together, they weathered the storms of life and celebrated its joys. Raymond and Rose's love was a guiding light for their community, inspiring all who witnessed it and creating generations of children & grandchildren with exceptionally high standards.

Raymond never failed to make those around him laugh, and he approached every challenge with resilience and pragmatism. He taught those around him to “enjoy the little things in life”.  As we mourn the loss of this remarkable man, we celebrate a life well-lived and the enduring impact of Raymond's legacy on the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of knowing him.  He often told his loved ones during challenging times that “better days are ahead”. While today we mourn his loss, we know that there are better days ahead as we carry his legacy forward.

Friends may call at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Rd., Katonah, NY on Friday, February 16th from 3-7 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's of the Assumption RC Church, 55 Valley Rd, Katonah, NY on Saturday, February 17th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY.
