Obituary of Judith Higgins
Judith Higgins, cherished sister, aunt and friend passed away after a brief illness in Westchester, New York. Judy was born in 1949 in Yonkers, New York to Robert Higgins and Margaret O’Keefe Higgins.
Judy grew up in Bellerose, Queens and spent many years working in Manhattan as a receptionist, attending cooking classes and traveling with family and friends - including to Ireland to explore her Irish roots.
An avid baker, Judy enjoyed testing out new recipes on her family and friends. Family favorites included chocolate chip pumpkin bread, sun dried tomato dip (thank you, Ina), chocolate chip cookies that were always soft and chewy, brownies and homemade peppermint patties. No holiday meal was complete without Judy’s cheesy potatoes.
Judy moved from Queens to Westchester and after selling her home, Judy surprised her niece and nephew with a trip to Disney World for Christmas. She was the babysitter who let the kids eat McDonalds and the chaperone willing to drive teenage girls to see John Mayer at Jones Beach.
Judy was almost always cold and often spent her weekend visits with family under many blankets, usually with a dog or two snuggled next to her.
Judy is survived by her sister Nancy and brother-in-law Anthony, her niece Caroline and husband Tom, her nephew Bobby and wife Sabra, two great-nephews, a great-niece and many friends and cousins.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 11th at 11:00 am at St.Mary Of The Assumption Church,55 Valley Road, Katonah, NY
