Obituary of Robert G. Lippman
Robert G. (Bob) Lippman of Somers, NY peacefully passed away
surrounded by his family on Wednesday July 3, 2024, at Cavalry Hospital
Bronx, NY. He was 83 years old.
He was born on November 28, 1940, in Mt. Vernon, New York to the late
Julius and Rashelle (Jacobson) Lippman. He lived in Yonkers, NY throughout
his childhood. He received an associate’s degree from Westchester
Community College in Valhalla, NY. Bob also attended Penn State University
in University Park, PA where he earned a certificate in Turf Management.
While there he was awarded a scholarship from the Golf Course
Superintendent’s Association of America based on his academic
achievement.
Bob founded Westchester Turf Supply, Inc. in Port Chester, NY in1976
and later moved the company to Lincolndale, NY in 1977. He was president of
the golf course maintenance supply company until his retirement in 2004. He
was a lifetime member of the Metropolitan Golf Course Superintendent’s
Association, Hudson Valley Golf Course Superintendent’s Association and the
Connecticut Association of Golf Course Superintendents. Bob was very
active in the Somers, NY chapter of The Lions Club.
Bob indulged in his passion for thoroughbred horse racing for most of
his adult life, spending many an August in Saratoga for the meet. He also
owned and showed his beautiful classic cars for many years. But the most joy
Bob received was from the time he spent with his family and many friends.
Bob is the beloved husband of Maria Lippman (DeGiorgio) for the last 57
years and is the loving father to Robert N. Lippman (Laura) of Hopewell
Junction, NY, Monica Lippman McSweeney (James) of Somers, NY and David
Lippman (Dawn) of Danbury, CT. He is also the devoted grandfather to Daniel
Lippman, Ryan McSweeney, Julia Lippman, Brenden McSweeney, Sarah
Lippman and Aimee Lippman. Bob is also brother to Gloria Lippmann of New
York, NY.
