Lawrence J. Nokes, 87, of Somers, NY passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 19, 2024.
Lawrence was born on March 31, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Hazel and Joseph Nokes.
Larry grew up in Merrick Long Island, attended St. Lawrence University and went on to serve as Lieutenant for the US Army for several years (mid 1950s -early 1960).
During his free time, Larry was a dedicated Boy Scout leader serving as Camp Director of Onteora Scout Reservation in Livingston Manor, NY in the early 1970s and Assistant Camp Director at Camp Wauwepex, in Wading River, NY before then.
Larry worked in the White Plains Public School district as a psychologist where he met his late wife Mina and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage.
They loved to travel the world over and share their photos and stories with their family and friends. And the traditional “Family Day” they started was never missed for over 40 years!
They were passionate about their dogs that accompanied them their entire married life. Larry was also an avid tennis player enjoying many, many years of playing with his good friends. He was an active volunteer on several committees in the Banksville-Bedford Community where he lived for over 40 years before moving to Somers. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Rd, Katonah, NY on Monday, August 26 between the hours of 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
Interment will be private.
Although Larry loved flowers he also generously donated to many organizations over the years. A contribution to one of his favorites, the White Plains Teachers Scholarship Fund, is greatly appreciated.
