Obituary of John Scott Parker
JOHN SCOTT PARKER
September 9, 1962 to September 11, 2024
An extraordinary person who celebrated life
John Scott Parker entered the world as a force of nature on Sunday at noon at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City.
When he was about 8 years old, he once declared at dinner that he was the SON and that the planets revolved around him. And in many ways, they did. He cherished his daughters, Mae and Annie, and he loved his family, friends, and life itself.
He departed from us on September 11, a date shared by many heroes, though he had been granted an additional 23 years due to a missed train that fateful morning in 2001.
Throughout his life, Scott tackled challenges, soared to new heights, laughed heartily, and, occasionally, shed tears. He lived life to its fullest, always with more dreams ahead—like getting a German Shepherd puppy, taking a motorcycle ride up Mount Washington with Brenda in the fall, visiting his daughter for Parents' Weekend at college, and walking his daughters down the aisle someday. Instead of dwelling on what he didn't get to do, we choose to celebrate what he did.
Scott had a passion for motorcycles, fishing in Montauk, and driving his JEEPs on the beach. He loved Breezy Point and his Buick Skylark. His patriotism shone through in his work and relationships. He had a knack for fixing and building things, and he had an innate understanding of how engines and machinery worked. Music, especially the Grateful Dead, was a big part of his life. He served in the Katonah Fire Department for over 20 years, was renowned for his barbecue skills, enjoyed sharing a beer with friends at the Muscoot Tavern and holding court on family holidays with new audiences, watching Errol Flynn films and cartoons, shooting guns, driving his red Ford diesel truck, observing the pond and wildlife on his property.
Scott fought valiantly against cancer, defying all predictions with his resilience and humor. Nurses wore masks that read “PARKER ROCKS,” and he never lost his hair, often reminding his bald friends of that fact. His absence leaves a vast void in our lives. He was a master storyteller, delivered dad jokes with impeccable timing, and was always there for his friends and family.
Mister Trouble never hangs around
When he hears this Mighty sound.
"Here I come to save the day"
That means that Mighty Mouse is on the way.
Yes sir, when there is a wrong to right
Mighty Mouse will join the fight.
On the sea or on the land,
He gets the situation well in hand
So though we are in danger, we never despair
Cause we know that where there's danger he is there!
(He is there, on the land, on the sea, in the air!)
We're not worrying at all
We're just listening for his call
“Here I come, to save the day!”
That means that Mighty Mouse
Is on the way!
We're not worrying at all
We're just listening for his call
“Here I come, to save the day!”
That means that Mighty Mouse
Is on the way!
And so we are listening, Scott. You listen too. It’s gonna be ok.
