Obituary of Mary Jane Luther

Mary Jane (Jinx) Luther 100, of Somers and formerly of Mt. Kisco, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2024.

Mary Jane was born August 31, 1924 to Alice and Thomas Brennen in Niagara Falls, NY. The eldest of 13 children she is survived  by her sisters Sharron Rubeck of Hendersonville NC, Millie Blackwell of S. Boston VA, Katherine Quist Schuyler VA and Patsy Brennen of Staten Island, NY.

Mary Jane graduated from the Sisters of Charity Nursing School in Buffalo, NY in 1948. She volunteered at Northern Westchester Hospital where she provided pastoral care to oncology patients for 25 years.

May Jane married Joseph Luther in 1948 and went on to have six children living on both the east and west coasts before settling in Mt. Kisco in 1965. Following the death of Joseph in 1983, she was blessed by a second marriage and companion in 1993 to Carl Howe who preceded her in death in 2006. She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Robert (wife Carol and daughter Lauren, Danbury, CT), Michael (Somers, NY), James (wife Eileen, Schenectady, NY), Thomas (wife Patricia, sons Richard (wife Theresa and daughters Sophia and Nina) and Robert, Rocklin, CA), Mary (husband Jim, Venice, FL) and William (wife Kristen , daughter Audrey and son Taegan, Norwalk, CT)

An avid seamstress and tennis player well into her 90’s her faith; family and friendship were the cornerstones of Mary Jane’s life.  All who knew her were touched by her grace.

To a life well lived and a woman well loved- rest in peace Jinx.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 21st.
