Obituary of Joan Carlsen Bauman

Joan Carlsen Bauman of Somers, NY died peacefully Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Northern Westchester Hospital. Joan was born in New York City on June 28, 1927, the daughter of the late Conrad and Tomina Carlsen. Joan was a graduate of the Maryland College for Women and continued her studies at Teacher’s College at Columbia University. She taught nursery and elementary school in Long Island and Westchester County, prior to co-founding the pre-school at the Larchmont Avenue Church in 1974. For more than fifty years Joan was an active member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), an organization promoting educational opportunities for women. Joan is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, William A. Bauman, MD. She was the loving mother of William C. Bauman, Dr. Phillip A. Bauman (Milbry Polk) and Pamela B. Pitasi (Nicholas). Joan was the beloved and devoted grandmother of Adelaide Polk-Bauman, Bree Polk-Bauman, Lindsay Pitasi, Mary Polk-Bauman, Nicholas Pitasi and Allison Pitasi. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM at Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah NY where a celebration of her life will begin at 7 PM.
