Obituary of Robert N. Burpee

Burpee, Robert N. “Bob”, 90 of Yorktown Heights N.Y. a former 54 year resident of Ardsley, N.Y. passed away June 13th 2016. He was born July 23, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Burt and Sadie “Susan” Burpee. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Jeannette (Heyer). A graduate of Andrew Jackson High School in Queens, N.Y., and Upsala College. He attended The University of Colorado and received a Master’s degree from Columbia University. Bob served the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He was employed by Mobil Oil prior to becoming the owner and Headmaster of both Gramercy Park and Stuyvesant Private Schools in New York City for over 30 years. After he retired, he pursued a career in real estate and also was an Adjunct Professor of Education. Bob was a Little League coach, served on the Board of Trustees of the Ardsley United Methodist Church, was a member of the Yorktown Presbyterian Church and an avid supporter of the Holmes Presbyterian Camp in Holmes, New York. Bob enjoyed traveling and camping, especially to Florida, Lake George and Rhode Island. He was a lifelong Yankee fan and an avid reader. Bob is survived by three children and their spouses: David and Linda Burpee of Somers, NY, Nancy and Douglas Wulkan of Putnam Valley, NY, Janis Pizzolato and Thomas S. Collins, Jr. of Sedona, AZ., his eight grandchildren: Christopher and his wife Lacy, Sarah, Kendra, Rebecca and her husband Lee, Andrew, Victor, Robert, and Nicholas. He is also survived by his four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The memorial service for Bob will be at the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown, 2880 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights, NY, 10598, on Monday June 20th, at 3:00 PM.
