Obituary of Lorraine Maria Swiatocha
Lorraine Maria Swiatocha of Somers, NY, died on June 19, 2018 after a 3 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 66 years old.
Lorraine was born in Queens, New York, and was the daughter of the late Philip C. and Anna Baumeister. She was employed as a special education teacher for the New York City school system. On August 16, 1980, she married her husband, Donald Swiatocha, in Rego Park, Queens, New York. They would be married nearly 38 years. They moved to Somers in 1995, where Lorraine was a founding member of the Somers High School Track and Field Booster Club, and was frequently found supplying and running the concession stand. She returned to teaching, working for Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, and retired in 2015 due to her illness.
Lorraine was regularly found tending to her flower gardens at home and enjoyed the outdoors, visiting numerous National Parks from Maine to Alaska.
To say that Lorraine was a devoted and dedicated mother to her children is an understatement. She would literally do anything for her three children, including driving cross-country twice in a single summer. She also deeply loved “her puppies”, Peanut and Scooter, and her “grand-dog” Jack.
In addition to her husband Donald, she is survived by her children and their spouses, Gregory and Erin (Masterson) of Alexandria, VA, Alexandra and Idelissa (Lluveres) of Mahopac, NY, and Douglas and Breanna (Gawrys) of Belleville, IL. She is also survived by her first grandchild, Timothy Nolan Swiatocha, born on June 18th, 2018, two brothers and their spouses, Philip and Raella Baumeister of Middle Village, NY, Robert and Betsy Baumeister of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Following cremation, the Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY, on August 25, 2018, at 11:30 am, where she was a parishioner.
The family has requested that donations in Lorraine’s memory be made to Putnam Humane Society, P.O. Box 297, Carmel, NY 10512. (www.puthumane.org)
