I am from the Arkansas Ozarks. My 4th great grandmother Hannah Ferris Horton was baptized in this church. I wish I could have found this connection with this fine young man at an earlier time. May he rest in peace. May his family gain support and comfort in the wonderful life he led.

My in-laws, Harold and René Mitchell, let me know about Charles and his illness. I don't remember much about him, since I hadn't seen him since we were 4 or 5. But what I do recall is that he was my very first love. At age 3, I went home from church at First Baptist Pine Bluff and announced that he was my "beautiful man." Farewell Charles, and thank you for being you.

Chip and I graduated high school together. Though we had not stayed in touch over the years, his passing has brought back memories from our youth. He lead a very meaningful life, with great accomplishments, and with such a profound impact on others. Rest in peace ol' friend!

Mr. and Mrs. Andrus, Linda, Danielle, and Chris,
I am so so terribly sorry! My dear Chip was such a special man to so many! But he was my forever childhood friend! I have been listening to his songs since hearing this sad news! A few years ago, we had a wonderful time when he traveled to NYC and met Bobby and me and our girls and gave us an awesome tour! In grand Chip style, he showed us all the best taverns and churches in the city! We made good use of the day catching up after not seeing each other for too many years! My girls know after just one visit with him why everyone loves him so much! Until we meet again sweet Chip! Love you forever!!!

Chip and I were friends and colleagues here in Harrison, AR. We belonged to a Wednesday coffee group with Father Seamus Doyle. We exchanged tall tales and and shared laughter and good fellowship. I can remember preaching a funeral with Chip, and he handed me a photocopy of something he wanted me to read at the close of the service. I didn't have time to read it beforehand, so I stuck it in my pocket until the appointed time. I read the part he intended, but I failed to notice that the parts in RED were the rubrics. I read the whole thing rubrics and all. Every time we were together after that, we burst out laughing at my dumb mistake. I remember his wonderful stories about gathering gensing around his cabin in Newton County, and his exploits on the Mulberry River. I cherished his friendship, and he will be greatly missed. Godspeed Old Friend. I look forward to seeing you again on the other side.

We had the great fortune and blessing to know Chip during his days in Louisville when he was in Seminary and particularly because of his serving at Second Presbyterian Church. He was key to establishing a contemporary worship service which captured the hearts and spirits of many members of our church from little ones to elder ones and most significantly to the youth of our church. One could see and feel the joy and authenticity of his faith. When it came time for him to move on, which was inevitable, that worship service (5 pm every Sunday) was never the same but we will never forget what it was because of him! Our love and prayers to all of you to whom he meant so much. Lee and Vic Baltzell

Chip's heart was so full of the love of God, and he was so good at sharing his love and his joy. He was such a precious gift of a person, and he led his life as a ministry of love and gracefully taught through his actions. I will miss him so much and will cherish every memory with him for the rest of my life. Prayers for peace and comfort for his family and friends and all the many people whose lives he touched.

I always remember my first experience with Chip at the Presbyterian Association of Musicians conference at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA and his renewal of baptism for all of us as he ran around the balconies of the chapel raining water down on us as he ran! But it was a little 5 year old reaching, reaching up toward Chip that caused tears to flow from Chip because of the simple beauty of the little one living out her baptism right there! Chip has lived out his baptism in the most amazing way and all who crossed his path are so much richer because of that experience. PEACE

I am saddened to hear this news! I have many fond memories of Chip from my brief time at HSU. He an impact on me, probably more than any other classmate. I've shared several stories about Chip with my family in the decades since college. On many occasions, I've regretted losing touch with him, but never as much as I do today.
Rest well Chip, and peaceful travels to your next gig!

Chip had so many gifts and talents, it was hard not to gravitate towards him.
He had an ability to create a community of love and fun. He is dearly missed by so many. May Linda and his family know of all the outpouring of love to them from all of us. It was a true joy to have known him. Linda was the perfect partner in his journey. They were so willing to share their love. Love, Larry
