Obituary of W.B. Taylor Eldon

W.B. Taylor Eldon 91, of Somers, NY passed away on October 8, 2018 of natural causes. He set his sails, tacked to the west and completed his final voyage into the sunset of life. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was a World War II Vet, one of last members of The Greatest Generation!

Taylor was born on November 1, 1926 in Bronxville, NY to Albert and Phyllis Eldon.  He graduated from Bronxville HS in 1944. He was a football player and a standout discus thrower.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946. Served as Quartermaster on the USS Suisun in the Pacific Theater and returned home to attend the Naval Academy Prep School. He went on to Northwestern University, School of Commerce & Business from 1947-1949. Upon returning to NY, he became an ABC Page to begin his career in Radio, Television and  Advertising. Taylor rose through the ranks to become a Vice President & Sales manager at Advertising Time Sales, Inc. He retired in 1985 from Avery Knodel to complete his career. After leaving the “Mad Men" scene of NYC he found a second calling in real estate, for the next ten years.

Taylor was “happily married for 60 yrs.” to his devoted wife, Elila who predeceased him in 2011. He had “three wonderful children”, Ken, Betsy, and Janet.  The two quotes were from Taylor in his last hours on earth. His family lived in Chappaqua, NY for 35 years before moving to Somers, NY where he spent the last 29 years.  He was a member of the Mt. Kisco Presbyterian Church and served as a Trustee and Elder for several terms.

Taylor was an avid and skilled sailor in his younger days.  He spent many summers teaching sailing at Alamoosook Island Camp in Maine, on a 50’ schooner.  He also traveled to Cape Cod in a rumble seat, for most of his youth to spend summers with his grandparents.  It was here he started his love of golf. He was a member of the East Hills Men’s Golf Group at Heritage Hills, for the last 20 years.  He won numerous tournaments and championships over the years. These were some of his proudest accomplishments. He was seen sporting his winning jackets on numerous occasions.

W.B. Taylor is survived by his son, Ken (Karen), and daughter Janet (Paul). His daughter Elizabeth, “Betsy” predeceased him in 1981. His four grandchildren, Dave (Liz), Ryan (Paige), Lauren (Dan) and Christopher, predeceased (2009).  And four great grandchildren, Madison Taylor, Emily, Kai, and the newest, 2 month old Lyla.  Also survived by two nieces, Sue(Doug) and Jane(Dan).  Predeceased by his sister, Patty(2008). And was loved by many of his cousins in the Viles family.
