Robert (“Bob”) was born on August 22, 1923 in Weehawken New Jersey, to the late Gerald W. Reidy and Florence Abell Reidy.  After high school, Robert attended Cornell University and earned a degree in civil engineering.  He went on to serve as a lieutenant in the US Navy serving the majority of his tour in the Pacific Islands.  At times under enemy fire, Robert’ s unit was responsible for building airstrips, bridges, roads, hospitals, and housing for our troops during the second World War.  His patriotism and love for his country never faltered and he remained an active member of the Somers VFW into his nineties.  In 2017, together with other WWII veterans residing at the Montrose Veterans Home, Robert went to Washington DC where he and other WWII veterans were honored at a ceremony hosted by former US Senator Robert “Bob” Dole.  After the war Robert worked as a civil engineer for Westchester County, Exxon, and other private companies.  Robert also loved to paint old barns and historic buildings.  His oil paintings adorn the walls of many homes and local businesses.

Robert was married for 62 years to Jean McClellan Reidy, who preceded him in death.  Robert and Jean lived on Lee Road in Somers for nearly 60 years.  Both were founders and remained active in the Deans Pond Association, which recently threw a block party in honor of Robert’s 95th birthday. Robert is survived by his son Daniel Reidy of St. Helena California, his sister Muriel Francella of Somers, his grandchildren, Daniel D. Reidy of St. Helena, and Alana Jean Reidy of Tuscumbia, Alabama.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Dianne Miller.
