Obituary of Helen M. Morris
Helen Marie Morris (nee Marks) went to be with the Lord on November 24, 2018 in Somers, NY and has been reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, John F. Morris. Born October 24, 1931 in New York to Bertha (nee Lindenmayer) and Joseph Marks, she lived her early life in the Elmhurst section of Queens. She cherished the memories she made in Smallwood, NY, where she, her sister Grace Marks and her parents enjoyed spending summer weekends.
Helen graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn with a degree in Elementary Speech Education. During her career as a speech teacher, she influenced the lives of many children in New York and New Jersey.
Helen met John Morris during her college years, and they were married in 1957. He swept her off her feet and some of her fondest memories were of dancing with him to big band music at Fordham University. They first lived in Elmhurst, Queens and later moved to Glen Rock, NJ where they raised their three children. John’s work brought them to Westchester, NY, where they had many friends. Helen thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore and was an avid baseball card and memorabilia collector. She most enjoyed time spent with her family and encouraging her eight grandchildren in their pursuits.
Helen is survived by her three children: Patrice Hansen of Glen Rock, NJ (husband William Hansen and granddaughters Blair and Katherine); Jean Henry of Williamsburg, VA (husband James and granddaughters Elizabeth, Taylor Dahmen and Katerina); and Christopher Morris of Pelham, NY (wife Maura Monaghan and grandchildren Flannery, Quinlan and Jack.)
Helen will be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, teacher, friend and mentor.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, Katonah, NY. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 10am at St. Joseph Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Somers, NY
