Obituary of Mario A. Sclafani
A memorial service and celebration of life for Mario A Sclafani will be held Saturday, Oct 19, 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, 55 Catoonah St, Ridgefield, CT 06877 Family and friends are invited to attend.
A longtime South Salem resident, “Marty” died August 29 in Armonk, NY at age 88.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Sclafani and three daughters Marie Shaffer of North Myrtle Beach, SC; Jo-Ann Donohoe of Armonk, NY; Susan Stefenson of Westport, CT. A fourth beloved daughter, Karen Maffly of Bozeman, MT predeceased him.
Marty is also survived by nine grandchildren Kenny, Julie, Nikki, Jackie, Johnny, Eric, Andrea, Lauren, and Aryana. As well as two great grandchildren Kaylee and McKenzie.
Born in the Bronx, and the youngest of 9 children, Marty attended PS 16 and City College of NY. Following his service in the US Army stationed in Anchorage Alaska, Mario earned a law degree from NYU and began a successful career as a real estate attorney. In his free time, Marty devoted time to his craft --carpentry and home improvements.
Despite his various illnesses, when asked, “How are you doing?” Marty, the eternal optimist would say, “It could be worse”. Friends and relatives also remember Marty as someone who willingly advocated for the vulnerable, and spoke up for the invisible and voiceless.
