Obituary of Therese C. Levinsky

Levinsky, Therese C. 68 Therese C. Levinsky (nee Grillo) a South Salem, N.Y resident for 27 years,. died on Monday, May 16 at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. She was born July 18, 1947 in Evangelical Deconess Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Lawrence J. (Larry) Grillo, Sr. and Constance (Connie) Grillo (nee Assande). She grew up in Mineola, Long Island and graduated from Mineola High School. She was a licensed cosmetologist. Therese began her distinguished career as an instructor at the Robert Fiance Beauty School. She later worked for the Clairol Division of Bristol Myers in the product test center and on the Professional Color Hotline. Therese went on to work in some of New York City’s most prestigious salons as a master haircolorist. Known as the “colorist to the stars”, Therese went on to build a tremendous following of private clientele. Her work was featured on national TV shows such as The Today Show and Oprah. Therese was a gourmet well known to her friends and relatives for her exquisite parties. Therese loved to sing and was a vocalist in the 1960’s Pop group called, The Stainless Steel Eggplant. The highlight for the group was serving as the opening act for Billy Joel and his group, The Hassles. Therese was a member of Temple Shearith Israel (now Temple Shir Shalom), where she was in the choir and served on the board. Therese is survived by her husband, Ronald (Ronnie), son Darren, his wife, Julieanne, grandson Lucas, of Woburn, MA, brother Lawrence A. Grillo, Jr., of Amherst, NH, nephew Christopher Grillo, his wife Harmony, and daughter Johnny Ella of North Hills, Los Angeles, CA, niece Jennifer McCauley, her husband Patrick and their daughters Madison and Megan of Farmingville, brother-in-law Stanley Levinsky, sister-in-law Phyllis Levinsky beloved aunts Florie Angelone and Antoinette Italiano, and many cousins. She was predeceased by her nephew Lawrence Grillo, III. Services will be held on Thursday, May 19 at 10:00 AM Temple Shir Shalom in Ridgefield, CT. Internment will be at South Salem, Cemetery.
