Obituary of Ann Marie Smith
Ann Marie (Zaccardo) Smith passed away peacefully on April 26, 2020 at the age of 75 on her 45th wedding anniversary to her devoted husband William.
Ann Marie, a native New Yorker, received her B.A. from Mercy College and joined the Peace Corps in Honduras. She received her Masters of Arts in Humanities from Manhattanville College and was a teacher and social worker for many years. Ann Marie was a devout Catholic and avid volunteer, serving on a number of nonprofit boards, including Timothy Cardinal Dolan’s advisory council.
She loved her Italian heritage, Broadway, the Opera, Art and books. Ann Marie enjoyed entertaining in her home with family and friends. She loved to travel to Europe, St. Thomas and the family beach house in Old Lyme, CT. Ann Marie loved her family above all, especially her grandchildren, and will be missed by many.
The matriarch of a loving family, Ann Marie is survived by her husband Bill, her son Jeffrey Smith, her daughter Joanna and her son-in-law Joseph Messineo, her grandchildren Dylan and Annabella Messineo, her sister Toni and brother-in-law Patrick Natarelli, her sister Carolyn Tragni, her brother Vincent Zaccardo and many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. Ann Marie was predeceased by her parents Anna and Vincent Zaccardo.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the pandemic, a private interment will take place at Gate of Heaven cemetery in Hawthorne, New York.
A memorial will be celebrated at a later date. Contributions in her name to the National Kidney Foundation or Catholic Charities of New York are gratefully appreciated.
