Obituary of Robert J. Terry
Robert J. Terry, of Yorktown Heights, NY, originally from Yonkers, passed away on Friday, April 24th, 2020 at the age of 67.
Robert or “Bob/Robbie” was born on July 6, 1952 and grew up in Yonkers, NY with his four brothers and two sisters. He was a graduate of Yonkers High School where he was a star basketball player and excelled in other sports. He then attended Long Island University where he also excelled in sports before meeting his wife Janice. They lived in Yonkers, where he was very well known and had their first child, Crystal. Robert then moved to White Plains, NY where he worked for the New York School for the Deaf and where they welcomed their son Robert Jr. They also spent a few years in Virginia where his wife Janice is from before moving back to Westchester in 1989. They settled in the Katonah-Lewisboro area and where they had their third child Alexander. His love of sports led him to one of his favorite things to do which was coach his children’s sports teams. He was always supportive and their biggest fan. When he wasn’t coaching on the field he was the loudest person cheering in the stands.
Robert was a natural salesman and enjoyed working hard to provide for his family. His outgoing personality helped him succeed in insurance sales and then in the copier sales industry where he worked for the majority of his career.
His biggest joy in the world was spending time with his family. Whether it was family trips, celebrating milestones, bbqs and family reunions. He was always the happiest when he was hanging out, laughing and sharing stories with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching or talking about anything sports related, good food and drinks and listening to his favorite artist of all time, Smokey Robinson. He also found great pride and joy in spending time with his only grandson, Casey.
He loved and cared about so many and will be truly missed.
Robert is the beloved husband of Janice and is the loving father of Crystal Terry (Tucker) of New Fairfield, CT, Robert Jr. (Marissa) of White Plains NY, and Alexander of Yorktown Heights, NY. He is the devoted grandfather of Casey who lovingly calls him “Pop-Pop”.
Robert is survived by his brothers Patrick Jr., Richard and Larry and his sister Lorraina. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. His sister Lenora, his mother Beatrice and father Patrick Sr. predeceased him.
Due to current quarantine rules, there will be no wake. A small service will be held on April 29th, at Clark’s Funeral Home in Katonah to be attended by immediate family only. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date when his friends and family can gather to celebrate his life.
