Obituary of Laurence O'Connor

Laurence (Larry) G. O’Connor of Somers, NY, formerly of Wheatley Heights, NY, passed away on May 12th, 2020 at the age of 95. Larry was born and raised in Corboggy, Moynalty, County Meath, Ireland. He emigrated to the United States in 1954 and proudly became a Naturalized Citizen in 1964. Larry was married to the love of his life, Kate, for 63 years. They shared their love for Ireland, their family, their friends, and gardening. Larry had a quick wit and enjoyed a good story, a good party, a good cup of tea, and a good Irish tune. Larry spent most of his career at Lazard Freres & Co., where he retired after 35 years, as Vice President, Accounting. He had a devout faith and was a devoted parishioner at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Wyandanch, NY and St. Joseph’s Church in Somers, NY. Larry is survived by his loving wife Kate and children James (Ann) of Levittown, NY, Phyllis of Somers, NY, Patricia Sweeney (John) of Yorktown Heights, NY, and Laura (Gerard) of New Fairfield, CT. He will be missed by his adoring grandchildren Samantha O’Connor Kuhlwein (Mark), Ryan O’Connor, Erin and Kristen Sweeney and Connor and Brendan Wrynn. Larry also leaves behind his sister Nuala and many loved nieces and nephews. Friends and family are welcome to stop by and spend some time on “Larry’s Bench”. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Larry’s life will take place on a later date. He will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Somers, NY.
