Obituary of Anna Minasian
1923- 2020.
Anna (Avedisian) Minasian, “Anne”, of Yorktown Heights, NY, passed away on Sunday May 17, 2020, just weeks short of her 97th birthday, due to Covid-19.
Daughter of Hagop and Martha, Armenian immigrants who survived the Genocide; and brother to the late Harry. Beloved wife of her dear husband, the late Sarkis Minasian, to whom she was lovingly married for 63 years. Devoted mother to April and her husband Edward, Gregory and his wife Carol, and Philip and his wife Amy. Proud grandmother of Ani, Richard, Nicolas and Sona. Loving sister-in law to Virginia. Loving aunt to her nieces, nephews and their families.
Proud of her Armenian heritage and faith, she was a founding member of St. Sarkis Armenian Church in Bayside, NY, and served on many committees at various Armenian churches as she moved her homestead from Floral Park, NY, to Tom’s River and Mahwah, NJ, and last to Somers and Yorktown, NY.
She was intelligent, resilient, creative and selfless – always devoted to her family. Anne worked as a medical secretary and as a legal and civil court stenographer. She was at the forefront of working women of her time, while running the household, cooking great Armenian meals, baking the best cakes and pies, hosting card parties, crocheting afghans, and of course, protecting and serving her family. She was a breast cancer survivor of 35+ years. She is loved and will be sorely missed.
A private ceremony will be allowed for her immediate family as she is laid to her eternal rest at Ivandell Cemetery in Somers, NY, on Thursday May 21.
