Anita Marrone

Obituary of Anita Marrone

Anita G. Marrone, of Katonah, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, February 15, 2021 in Greenwich,

CT. She was 94 years old.

Anita (“Anita Gemma Gemma”) was born April 28, 1926 in New Rochelle, NY to Anna and Philip Margiotta.

She was a graduate of New Rochelle High School and the Berkeley College in New York City. She spent her childhood summers in Southold, New York at her parents’ home on the Sound which was known by all as the “Hollywood Hotel” for the endless stream of guests arriving each weekend for some fresh sea air and Anita’s mother’s spectacular cooking.

When she wasn’t in Southold, she and her brother Philip could be found at Yankee Stadium rooting for Yankee legends Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gherig, Babe Ruth, and so many others, thus starting her lifelong love of the Yankees, never missing a game her entire life.

Anita was married to George J. Marrone for fifty-nine years and together lovingly raised four children giving them the greatest gift of all, a happy childhood filled with sweet memories to last a lifetime.

Anita was employed by AT&T in White Plains, NY as a secretary for twenty-five years where she made lifelong friendships with her co-workers and shared hysterical laughs with the members of her carpool.

Upon retirement, she volunteered in the gift shop at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, NY, where she made even more friends. Anita enjoyed entertaining and her parties were legendary. She was the hostess everyone wanted to be, managing to serve scrumptious meals while making sure her guests were having a good time.

Anita was a proud supporter of the small shops of Katonah enjoying the friendly chatter in Sgags, Weinstein’s and Charles’ for over forty years. Anita was a beautiful lady who loved life so very much, but who suffered far too many heartbreaks starting at the young age of nineteen when she lost her father, and later in life after losing her husband George just shy of their sixtieth wedding anniversary, only to then suffer the unimaginable losses of her son-in-law Louis, her first-born, Barbara, and her only son, George, all within the last ten years of her life.

Anita was comforted by the love of everyone who knew this very special lady, the lady who forged decades-long friendships with the most wonderful, kind people on earth, and whose husband, children and

grandchildren idolized her. She will be greatly missed.

Anita is survived by her brother Philip J. Margiotta, Jr. of New Rochelle, NY; daughter Anne L. Kajdi and

son-in-law George L. Kajdi of Port Chester, NY; daughter Nancy J. Marrone of Katonah, NY; grandson

Marc J. Marrone and his wife Imogene of Las Vegas, NV; grandson Christopher L. DiGiovanni of Katonah,

NY; and her greatest treasure of all, her great-grandson Ace K. Marrone of Las Vegas, NV. Anita is also

survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Also surviving is Anita’s “favorite daughter” Karen D. Miles of New York, NY.

Anita was predeceased by her parents, her husband George, daughter Barbara M. DiGiovanni, son George J. Marrone, Jr., and son-in-law Louis A. DiGiovanni.

A Memorial Service will be held in 2022 when family and friends can joyfully and safely gather together to

celebrate their love for Anita, her love for them, and Anita’s indomitable life force.

A private burial will be held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anita’s name to The American Cancer Society.
