Obituary of Mary E. Nugent

Mary Elizabeth Nugent, age 60, of Somers, NY, passed away on August 31, 2021.

Born November 18, 1960, in Levittown, NY, Mary was one of five children born to John and Peggy (Langley) O’Rourke. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Fairfield University in 1982, and her Master’s in Social Work from UNC Chapel Hill in 1988. Shortly afterwards started her career as a dedicated and compassionate social worker, including as an adjunct professor at Fordham University Graduate School of Social Work.

Mary married Tom Nugent, the love of her life, on November 13, 1993. She was the fiercely devoted mother of Laura, Lindsay, and Jenny, who will always remember her with such love and affection.

Mary is survived by her husband Tom, her children Laura, Lindsay, and Jenny, her father John, her siblings Tim, Chris, Kathy, and Harry, many other loving family members and countless friends whose lives she touched over her sixty years.

Mary will be remembered for her compassion, sense of humor, spirituality, zest for life and all the love she had to give to those around her. She fought her battle against lymphoma aggressively and bravely every step of the way, and never backed down.

The visitation will be held at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY on Sunday, September 5,                from 2:00 to 6:00pm.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY on Monday, September 6, at 10:00 AM. A private cremation is to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society’s Jerome L. Greene Hope Lodge Family Center, 132 West 32nd Street, New York, NY 10001 to honor her battle against lymphoma these past two years.
