Obituary of Alan Schadlow
Schadlow, Dr. Alan
Dr. Schadlow was born in the Bronx, New York on May 16, 1939 to Joseph and Lillian Schadlow. He graduated from Bronx High School of Science and Long Island University. He initially studied pharmacology, but then decided to follow his true calling to become a doctor. Taking the bold step of travelling to Italy, he studied medicine at the renowned University of Bologna — the world’s oldest medical school. This changed his life forever, and he considered it the best decision he had ever made. It was there that he met his future wife, Elvira Ciulli. This adventure changed the course of his life and opened up the world for a young man from the Bronx.
After completing his residency at Grasslands Hospital, he opened his own Internal Medicine practice in Yorktown Heights in 1972. He remained in practice until 2016, serving generations of patients in the northern Westchester area. He was affiliated with Northern Westchester Hospital Center where he served in various leadership positions, including president of the NWHC Medical Board. His greatest pleasure, after his family, was practicing medicine and caring for patients.
Dr. Alan Schadlow is survived by his wife, Elvira of 52 years, his three daughters, Nadia Schadlow Murphy, PhD, and son-in-law Philip; Valerie Schadlow van Beek, MD, and son-in-law Jeroen; and Monica Schadlow Buckhurst, MD and son-in-law Keir, and his grandchildren (Madeline, Emma, Niels, George, Jane, Bridget and Kate).
