Obituary of Marianne L. Lordi

Marianne Lordi, 64, passed away on Tuesday, March 7th, 2023, surrounded in love by her family at Northern Westchester Hospital. She was an extremely compassionate and intelligent woman, who was an incredible wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and charismatic member of the Westchester community. She enjoyed learning and had many varied interests and passions, and she lit up every room she walked into with her positive energy.

Marianne was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, and enjoyed a happy childhood with her parents Raymond and Claire, and her three brothers Ray, Steven, and John. She was studious and loved to read and write, as well as paint and ride horses. She was proud of her Irish heritage, and loved celebrating St. Patrick’s day every year. She went on to study English at Fairfield University, where she greatly enjoyed her courses in English literature and became an eloquent writer.

Marianne was an extremely social and outgoing person, whose relationships were so important to her. She had a very special partnership with her husband Bill, her college sweetheart who she met at Fairfield, and married in 1982. Their qualities were complimentary, and they helped each other to bring out the best versions of themselves, and enjoyed so many wonderful times together through their 41 loving years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, Italian dinners, watching the Yankees, being with friends and worshiping at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Somers.

Marianne was an exceptionally caring mother to her two daughters Diana and Christina. She helped them to enjoy wonderful childhoods filled with so much laughter, joy, and fun activities, and shared many life lessons and wisdom. She was so supportive of their studies, and did extensive research to help them find and apply to great colleges. She was also a loving aunt to her eight nieces and nephews.

Marianne had many dear friends, from her childhood in Winchester, Fairfield U, and in Lewisboro. She was generous with her time and extremely detail oriented. She helped to plan and organize numerous special parties and celebrations for her loved ones and gave thoughtful and personal gifts that were wonderful displays of her love. She was close with her daughters' friends and many of their parents as well, and naturally became friendly with everyone she met in local stores, restaurants, and at the girls’ after-school activities.

Marianne was a careful listener, and was extremely intuitive. She had a unique way of identifying the positive qualities in each person she spoke to, and genuinely making them feel good about themselves. She moved gracefully and exuded positivity and warmth everywhere she went with her welcoming presence. She preferred to ask questions about others rather than talk about herself, and she made everyone in her conversations feel comfortable, truly seen, and heard. We were all left feeling lighter after every smile, chat, and loving hug from her.

Marianne was passionate, intellectually curious, and had a “joie de vivre” that was truly contagious. She loved to read, research, and was constantly seeking knowledge. She loved comedy and had a great sense of humor, and had so many varied interests that filled her with joy. She was an active and devoted member of the St. Joseph’s parish choir, and was very passionate about the arts in general, especially music, theater, fine art, and photography. She was an animal lover, caring for the three dogs her family had, and she enjoyed learning about all dog breeds. She also loved horses, birds, elephants, and turtles. She was an avid traveler and was especially interested in the French language and culture, and the works of the French impressionists. She was also very interested in fashion, and loved expressing herself through her jewelry, colors, patterns, and textures, down to the color of her eyeglasses.

Marianne will be missed greatly, and her joyous, giving, and loving spirit will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

Visitation will be held in Marianne’s honor at Clark Associates Funeral Home in Katonah on Sunday, March 12th from 4-8PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church in Somers on Monday, March 13th at 10AM. Memorial contributions can be made to Marianne’s favorite charity, Habitat for Humanity.
