Obituary of Margaret C. Lisse

Lisse, Margaret “Big Peg” of New York City, died Monday, March 20, 2023, peacefully in her sleep at her residence at Putnam Ridge Nursing Facility in Brewster, NY.   

Peggy was born on June 12, 1934 in New York City to the late Josephine (1982) and Christopher Coleman (1967).  They lived in Harlem at 3254 Broadway and then moved to the Inwood section of Manhattan where Peg and her husband, John, raised their two children, “Little Peg” and “Little Johnny” amidst all of her 8 siblings and their children in the Parish of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs.  Peggy was a stunning beauty and always the life of the party.

Peggy was a graduate of the School of the Annunciation and The Assisium High School.  From there, she worked for General Motors and continued in the automobile industry as a biller/bookkeeper until she retired in 1987.

Peggy was the beautiful, beloved wife of her dear and handsome husband, John, who pre-deceased her in 1987.  They married at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Washington Heights on June 15, 1957.  She is pre-deceased by her siblings Kathleen Wagner, Elizabeth Lajoie (Vogel), Eileen Greaves, Michael Coleman, Christopher Coleman, Mary Coleman, and Sheila Coleman.  She is pre-deceased by her granddaughter, Nicole Gaine, whom she cared for and loved immensely and her beloved son, Johnny; her niece and goddaughter, June Rodriguez; her nieces Terry Moran O’Sullivan, Bernadette Vogel, and nephew, Gregory Vogel, and her son-in-law, Alan Dubner. She is pre-deceased by her three sisters-in-law, Mary Kiernan, Helen Shipley and Pauline Lisse.  We must not forget her cats, Tiger, Blackie, and Pudding Pops who were well-loved and cared for and brought her great joy.

She is survived by her sister, Patricia, her husband, Andrew Moloney and their son, Aidan; her daughter, Peggy Dubner and her grandchildren, Michael Dubner, whom she cared for and loved deeply, especially since he had her dimples, and his beautiful wife, Patti; granddaughter, Amanda Doherty and four great grandchildren, Adrian, Julian, Nazareth, and Josiah Doherty.  She is also survived by her bonus grandchildren, Mathew Dubner, Heather Overholt and Melanie Brotzman and their families, as well as very many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews in the Coleman and Lisse families.

Friends and family may call at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY on Sunday, March 26, 2023, from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 95 Plum Brook Road, Somers, NY 10589 on Monday, March 27, 2023, at 10:00 am.  A private interment will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532.
