Obituary of Yandwa Yo Shamapande

We are sad to announce the passing of Yandwa Y. Shamapande, sentimentally known to the family and friends as “Yandy” – of Goldens Bridge, New York.   Yandwa, 41, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the Northern Westchester Hospital, with his family by his side.

Yandwa was born at the Booth Memorial Hospital in Flushing Queens, New York City, on December 8, 1981, the beloved son of Dr. Yobert K. and Linah H. Shamapande.

Yandwa attended Increase Miller Primary as well as John Jay schools of the Katonah-Lewisboro Schools District, with a stint at the American International School of Johannesburg, South Africa - where his parents were stationed in the United Nations diplomatic service. After returning to Goldens Bridge, he graduated from John Jay High School and went on to receive a BS degree in Business from the State University of New York at Albany in 2001.

Following his college graduation, Yandwa had working stints at Enterprise Car Rental, Target, and Kohl’s as well as a ten-year career as a marketing executive with FOX Sports in New York City.

He is survived by his parents, Dr. Yobert K and Linah H Shamapande, his five siblings Sunwa, Shomwa, Nyotwa, Salwa, & Sunkwa, his two nieces, Shadae and Kayah, and his one nephew, Noah.

The family will receive friends on September 24th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, NY.  The Graveside Service will be celebrated on September 25th at 10:00 am at South Salem Cemetery, Spring Street, South Salem, NY.
