Obituary of Viola Dwyer
Viola Victoria (Vaughn) Dwyer, 80 of Somers, died Sunday November 12, 2023 at Northern Westchester Hospital. Viola (Vi) died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Vi was born on May 7, 1943 in New York, NY. She lived magical life filled with family, love and friends.
Beloved wife of William Dwyer. Much loved mother of William Dwyer Jr. and Christa Dwyer Ryan. Cherished mother in law to Maddie Dwyer and Timothy Ryan. Blessed grandmother to Gabriella, Mackenzie, Sofie, Teagan and Kieran.
Vi was born and raised in Manhattan, NY (Inwood). She spent her early years traveling the world with her family, playing sports including a NYC basketball championship and flourishing in the professional world. She then found her true calling as a loving wife and mother. Later she found passion in both golf and refereeing. She cultivated 2 new and beloved friend circles (not to mention a formidable handicap) at Hempstead Golf and Country Club in NY and Taberna Country Club in New Bern, NC. She was no less proud of her refereeing resume in scholastic lacrosse, basketball and soccer in Nassau County NY.
She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as “Oma.” Anyone who knew her had no doubt of her unconditional love and pride for her 5 incredible grandchildren (and their dogs). She was a force to be reckoned and lived to care for all those around her, including husband Bill in her final years.
She traveled, loved and cared for us all until the end.
