Obituary of Elizabeth van Cortlandt Clark
Elizabeth van Cortlandt Clark, 77 years old died after a long illness on May 3, 2022 at her home in Pound Ridge.
She was known to all her friends and family as Tibby.
Tibby is survived by her life partner of 44 years, Laila Tofte and her daughter Jennifer Tofte Balliett, her husband Dan and children, Landon, Pace and Campbell Heatly.
Tibby was the daughter of the late Benjamin Clark and Charlotte Lyman Clark. She leaves behind her sisters Charlotte de Bresson and her husband Edgar of Paris and Ella Clark of West Cornwall, CT and her 3 children.
Tibby was widely known as a loving, funny and unique woman. She worked as a nurse for several years. She later started a home cleaning business. She was an avid nature lover whose parents bequeathed land to the Pound Ridge Conservancy, now known as the Clark Preserve in Pound Ridge as well as the Maine Heritage Trust for Arcadia National Park. Her parents were also proud contributors to Planned Parenthood.
Tibby was NY State certified as an animal rehabilitator. She saved several species, but her favorite animals she helped survive were baby squirrels. She loved the outdoors and had a beautiful garden and was an avid wild bird watcher.
Tibby will be sorely missed by her many, many friends.
