50 some years ago I was fortunate enough to move next door to Gloria, Al and their beautiful family on Robert Martin Blvd. A few years after moving in, I gave birth to my daughter, Dawn Marie. At the end of my 12 month maternity leave, just 2 weeks before I was planning to return to work, I was informed that I would not be returning to my former position on the off tour. My new position was to be totally different and on days. Suddenly, I had just 2 weeks to find child care, which was not going to easy back in the 70s…. Gloria and Al knew how upset I had been about going back to work on the off tour, even though I’d be leaving the baby with her dad! Now I was going to be leaving her for the entire day and with complete strangers!!
Gloria and Al were my Saviors! Gloria called informing me that she and Al had been talking about my situation and didn't want me to worry about Dawn Marie. Gloria said she would provide child care and I could just concentrate on learning my new position. Then after I felt settled in, I could look into permanent child care.
It gave us great peace of mind to know that Dawn was being care for in such a safe and loving environment! After a few weeks Gloria called saying that the family had talked and agreed that there would be no need for me to look elsewhere for permanent child care!
